2. Scope & Applicability

2.1  These Conditions apply to all flights we operate or arrange on our behalf.

2.2  If these Conditions conflict with mandatory law, the mandatory provision prevails.

2.3  Additional Services are performed by third parties; we act only as an agent unless stated otherwise.

2.4  Charter operations are subject to the relevant charter agreement. These Conditions apply to charter flights only where expressly incorporated into that agreement.

3. Tickets & Reservations

3.1  Contract of Carriage

Your Ticket, these Conditions, our Fees & Charges Table and any notices issued at booking form the contract of carriage.

3.2  Identity Verification

You must present valid identification at check-in. For the purpose of these Conditions, acceptable identification means a current passport, national identity card, or driving licence. Failure to present acceptable identification at check-in may result in refusal of carriage with no refund. We reserve the right to request identification at any point prior to or during travel.

3.3  Booking Changes & Name Changes

(a)  Date or Time Changes: You may change the date or time of your flight subject to availability. A change fee of €3 (€0) per Sector applies, plus any difference in fare between your original booking and the new flight. Changes must be requested no later than 24 hours before scheduled departure. No refund applies where the new fare is lower than the original fare paid.

(b)  Changes or cancellations to your booking initiated by us will be subject to a full refund.

(c)  Full Name Changes (Different Passenger): Transfer of a Ticket to a different named passenger is permitted up to 48 hours before departure, subject to a fee of €5 and production of acceptable identification for the new passenger. Tickets may not be transferred within 24 hours of departure under any circumstances.

(d)  A maximum of two changes per Booking are permitted. Further changes will not be accepted and the original Booking will be treated as cancelled in accordance with the applicable cancellation terms in Section 5.

(e)  All change requests must be made through our online booking management system at www.aerarannislands.ie or directly through our booking team, and cannot be processed at the gate or after check-in has closed.

3.4  Validity & Coupon Sequence

Tickets must be used in the sequence shown. Out-of-sequence use invalidates remaining travel.

3.5  Fraudulent or Altered Tickets

Tickets that are altered, forged, acquired unlawfully, or presented by someone other than the named passenger are void.

3.6  Ticketing Time Limits

If ticketing deadlines set during booking are not met, we may cancel your reservation.

4. Fares, Taxes, Fees & Charges

4.1  Fares apply only to transport between the departure and arrival airports listed in your Ticket.

4.2  Additional services (baggage, name changes, etc.) are subject to our Fees & Charges Table.

4.3  Fares and charges must be paid in the currency shown during booking unless we agree otherwise.

5. Payment, Refunds & Fraud Controls

5.1  Payment

Your booking is confirmed only upon full payment. Where payment is made by card online, your booking is confirmed upon receipt of authorisation from your card issuer. We reserve the right to cancel a booking where payment authorisation is subsequently reversed or declined.

5.2  Refunds

Fares are generally non-refundable except:

  • where required by law;
  • where we cancel or significantly reschedule your flight;
  • where allowed by the Fare Rules;
  • where we approve a refund at our discretion (administration fees may apply).

5.2(a)  Cancellations by Passengers (Tourist)

You may cancel your Booking subject to the following conditions:

(a)  Cancellations made 48 or more hours before scheduled departure will be refunded in full.

(b)  Cancellations made less than 48 hours before scheduled departure are non-refundable.

(c)  No-show (failure to check in or board without prior cancellation) results in forfeiture of the full fare with no refund.

All cancellation requests must be submitted through our online booking management system at www.aerarannislands.ie or by phone on 091 593 034 before the relevant deadline. Refunds are processed within 14 working days to the original payment method.

5.2(b)  Cancellations by Passengers (Islander)

You may cancel your Booking subject to the following conditions:

(a)  Cancellations made 2 hours or more before scheduled departure will be refunded in full.

(b)  No-show or cancellation made less than 2 hours before scheduled departure (including failure to check in or board without prior cancellation) results in forfeiture of the full fare with no refund.

All cancellation requests must be submitted through our online booking management system at www.aerarannislands.ie or by phone on 091 593 034 before the relevant deadline. Refunds are processed within 14 working days to the original payment method.

5.3  Compassionate Circumstances

We know that life does not always go to plan. If you or an immediate family member experiences a bereavement or serious illness after a Booking is made, please contact our reservations team as soon as you can and we will do our best to help.

In these circumstances, we will consider requests for a refund or credit note on a case-by-case basis, outside the standard cancellation terms above.

We want to be as flexible as we can in difficult times, but we are not always in a position to guarantee a particular outcome, and any refund or credit offered under this clause remains at our discretion.

Please contact us at [email protected] or 091 593 034.

5.4  Form of Refund

Refunds are made to the original payer via the payment method used.

5.5  Fraud Prevention

We may cancel any booking if:

  • payment is suspected fraudulent;
  • a chargeback is initiated;
  • the cardholder cannot be verified;
  • inconsistent or suspicious booking data is detected.

We may request additional identification before allowing travel.

6. Personal Data

We process your personal data as Data Controller for the purposes of booking management, travel operations, safety, legal compliance, and customer service. We may share your data with government authorities, airport operators, and service providers where necessary for these purposes.

Your personal data is processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy, available at www.aerarannislands.ie, which sets out your rights under applicable data protection law including the right to access, rectify, or request erasure of your data. For data protection queries, please contact us at [email protected].

7. Schedules, Delays, Cancellations & Re-routing

7.1  Schedules Not Guaranteed

Flight times may change. They do not form part of the contract of carriage.

7.2  Changes Initiated by Us

If we advance or delay your flight by more than two hours, you may choose:

(a)  to rebook at the earliest available opportunity;

(b)  to rebook at a later date; or

(c)  a full refund.

The above applies to our own rebooking and refund policy and does not affect any statutory rights you may have under applicable law.

7.3  Cancellations

If we cancel your flight, you may choose rebooking or a full refund.

7.4  Diversions

We may divert for safety or operational reasons. We will arrange onward transport to your ticketed destination where reasonably practicable.

7.5  Weather Sensitivity (Category B Aircraft)

Our operations use small aircraft serving island and regional aerodromes. Weather conditions including wind, visibility, sea fog, and runway conditions may lead to delays, diversions, or cancellations. Such events do not create liability beyond the remedies provided by law and these Conditions.

7.6  Disruptions

In the event of a weather-related cancellation, we will endeavour to assist passengers in accessing ferry services as an alternative. Your flight fare will be refunded to the original payment method within 14 working days. The cost of ferry travel is not included in your flight fare and must be purchased independently at the port. We do not guarantee the availability of ferry services and accept no liability for ferry scheduling or capacity.

8. Check-in & Boarding

8.1  Check-in opens 30 minutes before scheduled departure and closes 10 minutes before scheduled departure.

8.2  Late arrival may result in loss of travel rights and forfeiture of fare.

8.3  Boarding may close earlier based on operational needs.

8.4  We are not responsible for costs arising from your failure to meet check-in or boarding deadlines.

9. Baggage

9.1  Baggage Allowances

  • Checked Baggage: 1 item up to 10 kg (22 lbs) included in your fare.
  • Cabin Baggage: 1 item up to 2 kg (5 lbs) included in your fare.

The combined weight of checked and cabin baggage per passenger is 12 kg (27 lbs). Baggage exceeding this combined limit will be subject to additional baggage charges as set out in clause 9.2 and may be refused for safety purposes.

Due to the nature of our small Category B aircraft, cabin space is restricted and there are no overhead storage bins. We reserve the right to refuse cabin baggage that cannot be safely stowed or that exceeds the size restrictions applicable to the aircraft type. Details of cabin baggage size restrictions are available at www.aerarannislands.ie.

9.2  Additional Baggage

Additional baggage fees are as follows:

  • Tourist passengers: €10 for additional weight allowance of up to 10 kg (22 lbs) per Sector.
  • Islander passengers: additional weight allowance of up to 10 kg (22 lbs) per Sector, free of charge, subject to hold capacity.

Additional baggage may be purchased online at www.aerarannislands.ie, through our online booking management system, or by contacting our booking team by phone on 091 593 034. Additional baggage is accepted subject to available hold capacity and may be limited per flight depending on the weight and balance requirements of the aircraft.

9.3  Prohibited Items

You must not include in your baggage:

  • money, jewellery, or valuables;
  • electronics and cameras;
  • passports or travel documents;
  • fragile or perishable items;
  • dangerous goods as defined under ICAO/IATA Technical Instructions, including explosives, oxidising agents, corrosives, flammable materials, and toxic substances.

We are not liable for loss or damage to these items if included in baggage.

We accept no liability for medication or medical supplies included in checked baggage. Passengers are advised to carry essential medication in their cabin baggage at all times.

9.4  Packaging

Baggage must be securely packed to withstand normal handling. We reserve the right to refuse baggage that is insufficiently packed or that may cause damage to other baggage or the aircraft. Where damage to baggage occurs as a result of inadequate packaging, our liability may be reduced or excluded accordingly.

9.5  Special Items

We reserve the right to refuse any item that cannot be safely loaded or stowed given aircraft weight, balance, or space constraints on the day of travel.

9.6  Pets and Assistance Dogs

(a)  Assistance Dogs  Assistance dogs recognised under applicable law travel free of charge. A muzzle is mandatory throughout the journey. At least 24 hours’ notice is required.

(b)  Domestic Pets  Domestic pets may be accepted for carriage in the cabin subject to the following conditions:

  • If the pet weighs 15 kg or less, a charge of €10 (€0) per leg will apply.
  • We do not carry pets in excess of 15kg.
  • The weight of the pet must be declared at the time of booking. Pets will be weighed on the date of travel.
  • Pet carriage must be pre-booked at least 24 hours before departure. Same-day or gate bookings for pets will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Carriage may be refused up to departure time on safety or operational grounds, in which case the pet fee will be refunded in full.
  • A maximum of one pet per flight will be permitted.
  • Certain breeds may be restricted for operational reasons. Please contact our reservations team at [email protected] or 091 593 034 to confirm acceptance before booking.

We accept no liability for the health, injury, loss, or death of any animal carried in the cabin, except where caused by our negligence.

9.7  Infant Equipment

One item of infant equipment (for example, a buggy or pram) may be carried free of charge. Such items are accepted on the condition that we accept no liability for minor cosmetic damage such as scratches or scuffs that may occur during loading and unloading.

10. Special Assistance (Persons of Reduced Mobility)

10.1  We comply with Regulation (EC) 1107/2006.

10.2  Please notify us at the time of Booking if you require assistance. Or contact us at [email protected] or 091 593 034.

10.3  Because Category B aircraft have no cabin crew, we may:

  • limit the number of passengers with reduced mobility per flight;
  • require passengers with reduced mobility to be able to fasten seatbelts unaided;
  • require self-mobility within the cabin;
  • decline passengers requiring continuous medical supervision.

10.4  Passengers requiring medical oxygen must contact us at [email protected] or 091 593 034 at least 48 hours before departure. Acceptance is subject to our safety assessment and applicable aviation authority requirements. We reserve the right to refuse carriage where the required notice has not been given or where the equipment cannot be safely accommodated on the aircraft.

10.5  Pregnant passengers may travel without medical certification up to and including 36 weeks of pregnancy. Travel between 36 and 38 weeks requires a doctor’s letter confirming fitness to fly, dated within 7 days of travel. We are unable to carry passengers who are more than 38 weeks pregnant.

11. Weight & Balance

Due to the nature of Category B aircraft operations, we may be required to request the weight of passengers and their baggage for safety and operational purposes. This information is used solely for aircraft weight and balance calculations. We reserve the right to offload baggage or, in exceptional circumstances, to refuse or delay carriage where weight and balance requirements cannot be met. Where carriage is refused solely on weight and balance grounds, a full refund will be issued.

12. Unaccompanied Minors

12.1  We may carry unaccompanied minors aged between 6 and 12 years, subject to the conditions set out in this clause. Passengers under the age of 6 may not travel unaccompanied under any circumstances.

12.2  A parent or responsible adult must complete and sign the Unaccompanied Minor declaration form at the departure airport before travel. This form is available from our ground staff at the airport.

12.3  A responsible adult must remain at the departure airport until the flight has departed and the aircraft is airborne.

12.4  A named responsible adult must be present at the arrival airport to collect the child. The name and contact details of the collecting adult must be provided at the time of completing the declaration form.

12.5  We reserve the right to refuse carriage to an unaccompanied minor where these requirements have not been met or where we are not satisfied that appropriate arrangements are in place at either end of the journey.

13. Refusal of Carriage & Passenger Conduct

13.1  Refusal of Carriage

We reserve the right to refuse carriage to any passenger, or to remove a passenger from a flight, where we reasonably believe that carrying that passenger would pose a risk to the safety of the aircraft, crew, or other passengers, or where the passenger is intoxicated, behaving in a disruptive or threatening manner, or is in violation of any applicable law or regulation. In such circumstances, no refund will be issued.

13.2  Passenger Conduct

Passengers must comply with all safety instructions issued by the pilot or ground crew at all times. Seatbelts must be worn for the entire duration of the flight. Smoking is strictly prohibited on all flights. Passengers who behave in a manner that is threatening, abusive, or disruptive, or who fail to comply with safety instructions, may be removed from the aircraft and may be reported to the relevant authorities. We reserve the right to seek recovery of any costs incurred as a result of disruptive behaviour.

13.3  Infants

Infants under 7 days of age may not travel on any Aer Arann Islands flight.

14. Liability

14.1  Limitation of Liability

Save as required by applicable law or the Convention, we shall not be liable for any indirect, consequential, or special losses arising from delay, cancellation, or disruption to your journey, including but not limited to missed connections, accommodation costs, vehicle hire, or loss of income. Our liability in respect of delay, cancellation, or disruption is limited to the remedies expressly provided in these Conditions.

14.2  Convention Liability

Our liability for death, bodily injury, or damage to baggage is governed by the Convention as applicable to your journey. Liability limits are expressed in Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) as defined by the International Monetary Fund. Details of the applicable limits are available on request or at www.aerarannislands.ie.

14.3  Baggage Liability

We are not liable for loss or damage to prohibited items as listed in clause 9.3, or for damage arising from inadequate packaging as described in clause 9.4. Our liability for loss or damage to checked baggage is subject to the limits set out in the Convention.

16.2  Changes to These Conditions

We may update these Conditions from time to time. The version of these Conditions in force at the date of your booking shall govern your contract of carriage. The current version is always available at www.aerarannislands.ie.

16.3  Severability
